What is Beauty?
This project is a simple test with very few rules.

The writer is asked to answer one simple question: What is Beauty? This may seem easy, but most participants had a difficult time answering the question. A philosophy professor thought about it for three days, then came back to me and said, “I just can’t do it. It’s too complicated.”

The purpose of this journal was to gain an insight into each individual’s creativity threshold, background, personal beliefs, and any other psychological clues I would be able to gather. As an art and anthropology major with an overwhelming interest in psychology, this journal is a fun way to explore the people that surround me on an everyday basis: people from all walks of life, all ages, all religions, with very different things to offer.

The rules? Simple. You answer the question, sign your name in some way (whether it be your name in full, your initials, or a pen name), and add the date. Each contributor was given as much time as they needed, a full 3in x 4in blank page in my “Tiger Pad” (only $2 in Downtown Seattle!), and a black pen. The answers are unlimited. Some are funny. Some are ridiculous. Some are thought provoking and honest. However, even with the endless possibilities, this question still seemed to leave many people stumped.
